Believing in a Better World Means Brand Switching

Today we are privy to so much information. As a librarian and information professional, I can tell you that whatever you have questions about is probably available on the internet somewhere- as long as you are reading reputable bipartisan statistics and reports.

Lately, the way that big monopoly businesses treat their workers has come to light in a big way and we should probably listen up. Just like how Gandhi said “be the change you wish to see in the world,” we can be the change we want to see in companies that make billions of dollars off of us as consumers. In 2025 I’m changing my consumer mindset to support businesses that have a positive impact on the planet, their people and my overall health and way of life.

I’m breaking away from my Amazon subscription products and Sam’s Club membership to support companies that stand by the importance of DEI, paying a living wage, providing safe work environments for employees and don’t cause more damage to the planet and our bodies with plastics and toxins.

This is what I’m doing to jump off my Amazon addiction permanently:

  • Swapping out memberships that don’t stand for what I stand for- i.e. I switched from Sam’s (owned by Walmart) to Costco (supports DEI).
  • Cutting back on buying all the things that I don’t really need. Let’s face it, we buy way more crap when the ads are in our faces. So, I deleted the Amazon app from my phone and no longer use it to scroll like it’s social media. I do NOT need another damn plastic drawer organizer. This also helps me to save money that I tend to waste when I’m influenced to buy all the home goods that I really could live without.
  • Not buying from fast-fashion companies like Amazon, Shein, Temu or Walmart means that I’m putting more thought into my purchases. These online sellers allow for products to be sold from all over the world and I might be paying more for my clothes, but I’m not paying more in my health later on because my body is covered in toxins. Several studies have been done confirming the presence of chemicals like PFAs, BPAs, phthalates,ย azo dyes,ย andย formaldehyde can be found on our clothing from socks and bras to shirts and pants. Buying brands that are devoted to creating non-toxic products reduces my stress.ย

Every little bit helps! It might be scary to try a new lifestyle change, but once it becomes habit you won’t even notice. You might be see the benefits of the change right away.

Give yourself a little prana friends <3
